Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
